Education Lecturers

In March, the Iberê Camargo Foundation’s Education Programme promoted its first Course for Education Lecturers. About a hundred people registered for this activity, from which 32 students were selected to take the two-week course. In the end, ten participants were chosen to work at the Foundation.
Education Programme coordinator, Luciano Laner, asked t the lecturers already working at the Foundation to help him to create the course’s activity schedule. “Since we have a permanent Education Programme, working with an agenda is part of the lecturer job. It’s important for them to share with the students what they learned while exercising their job”, he explained.
During the first week, students attended speeches about a museum’s daily operation. Mila Chiovatto, educational coordinator at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, talked about her experience at the institution, with special concern to the difficulties of bringing new audiences into museums. Mônica Hoff, coordinator at the Mercosul Biennial Pedagogical Project, gave a speech about the education lecturer’s role in the history of the Biennial. “The mediator, in a certain way, is the target audience of the event. They are the ones who live the strongest experience, and we want them to talk about it to their parents, their friends and every other people they know”, she explained. Complementing the course, some members of the Foundation’s team presented the different areas of activities of the institution, such as the collection, the Print Studio, the exhibition programme, the catalog publishing and the website.
In the following week, the focus was on practical activities. The students were divided in groups to simulate defying situations that may take place during the education lecturer’s daily work. They also discussed the possible reactions in uncommon circumstances.
At the final day, the groups developed workshops oriented to different kinds of receptors. In a relaxed moment, the students pretended to be children at the age for which the activities were oriented. The idea was to put in practice what they learned during the previous meetings.
With a successful experience, the Education Programme intends to promote the course again next year, developing a new group of education lecturers prepared to work at the Foundation.
