Award

The 2009 edition of the Rodrigo Melo Franco de Andrade Award, promoted by the National Artistic and Historical Heritage Institute (IPHAN), awarded regional distinction to the project developed by the Foundation’s Research and Cataloguing team coordinated by Mônica Zielinsky. Iberê Camargo: do acervo à comunidade [Iberê Camargo: from the collection to the community] was entered in the Collection Research and Inventory category. Regional prizes will be awarded at a ceremony in Caxias do Sul on August 21.
The work is focused on identifying and cataloguing the oeuvre both within the institution and outside, by tracing the artist’s works in public and private collections. The end product of this activity is the development of a series of catalogues raisonnés intended to encompass the complete work of Iberê Camargo. This has been the driving force behind approaches to audiences interested in art and in studies into the work of Iberê, together with establishing a relationship with the art market for the secure circulation of the production.
The project highlights the importance of the Foundation, with its objective of preserving and publicising the artist’s work, highlights of which include forming a framework for recognition of the work, providing support for other museological initiatives, offering the best security in terms of conservation of the collection, together with accurate data about art materials and inherited documentation. It also provides a basis for activities related to its public projection, through cultural projects centred on the authenticated and preserved work of Iberê Camargo.
