Foundation

From July 21-26 the French filmmaker and visual artist Pierre Coulibeuf, accompanied by his producer Chantal Delanoë, were visiting the Foundation in the development phase for his new project, which was inspired by the work of Iberê Camargo.

This will be Coulibeuf’s first film to be made in Brazil and its main location will be the Iberê Camargo Foundation headquarters. In addition to finding the best spaces in the building, Coulibeuf will research the surroundings of the new headquarters looking for possible locations.

“My work needs a point of support; and I can find this support here in Siza’s architecture. The artist constructs his own route through reality. Siza’s building produces multiple realities, from various points of view. My work proposes a route through this reality,” Coulibeuf says.

Coulibeuf was born in Elbeuf, France in 1949 and lives Paris. He has directed short films including Klossowski, peintre-exorciste (1987-88), Le démon du passage (1995) and Lost Paradise (2002). His full-length films include C'est de l'art (1993), L'Homme noir (1993-1998), with the participation of the Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, Balkan Baroque (1999), which involved the acting of Marina Abramovic, and Michel Butor Mobile (2000), produced with the essayist and novelist Michel Butor. The filmmaker’s works are included in the collections of institutions like the Centre Pompidou (Paris), Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, the Goetz Collection (Munich), and the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art (Turin).

As yet untitled, the project is curated by Gaudêncio Fidelis and should be shot in 35mm in november, in partnership with the Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre. As a result, the Foundation will have an exhibit in 2009 to show the sort film and an installation based on it, created by Coulibeuf.
