The Education Programme

The Education Programme aims to serve the Iberê Camargo Foundation audience. It is aimed at teachers and students from infant, primary, secondary and higher education and youth and adult education (EJA), together with specialist audiences and the general public.

Under the guidance of the Education Curator Luis Camnitzer, the Programme encompasses mediator and teacher training, the publication of educational material, guided visits and practical activities related to the exhibitions, emphasising the work of Iberê Camargo and the Foundation’s base as subjects for work, focusing on modern and contemporary art.

More than promoting the work of Iberê Camargo, the education programme intends to promote contemporary artistic thought and empower the role of the public as a player and agent in the project, constructing its programmes and activities in a coordinated way with educators and students.

The Education Programme aims to dynamically and interactively lead the public towards appropriation of art and an understanding of its connections with everyday life, and to make the visitor into a disseminator of artistic thinking beyond the time-space of the exhibitions. It wishes to call upon art to be a tool for liberating critical thinking and expression.

Priority audiences and actions for the Education Programme

Teachers and students from infant (over four years old), primary, secondary and youth and adult education in Porto Alegre and the Metropolitan Region:

  • To update and train teachers, preparing them for understanding the modern and contemporary artistic phenomenon; assisting them in approaching it and exploring it in their work;
  • To serve as a stimulus for research and a changed perspective towards the more traditional art education activities;
  • To encourage teachers to organise class projects connected to the Foundation’s Education Programme;
  • To stimulate the curiosity and investigative impulse of students;
  • To use workshops to involve the public in work processes which result in visual production.

Other audiences

Specialist and related audiences (artists, critics, teachers of art and/or art history from higher education institutions, art students from higher education institutions, architects and related professionals, and others):

  • To provide information about issues of interest to the group;
  • To offer a specific programme about the Foundation’s base, focused on its architectural design and museological activity.

The general public:

  • To provide advice and enable public contact with exhibitions of modern and contemporary art in an easy and informative manner.
