• Born Iberê Bassani de Camargo, on 18 November, at Restinga Seca, in the Rio Grande do Sul countryside, the son of Adelino Alves de Camargo, railway agent, and Doralice Bassani de Camargo, telegraph operator.
|1928|
• Starts studying painting at Santa Maria Railway Cooperative School of Arts and Crafts (RS), taught by Frederico Lobe and Salvador Parlagrecco.
|1932|
• Takes up his first job as technical-office apprentice at the First Railway Battalion. Soon after, he is promoted to the post of technical draughtsman.
|1939|
• Works in Porto Alegre, as technical draughtsman at the Rio Grande do Sul State Public Works Secretariat and attends the Technical Architectural Design Course at the Instituto de Belas-Artes do Rio Grande do Sul. Marries Maria Coussirat, who studied painting at the same institution.
|1942|
• Sells his first oil painting, Paisagem. Receives a grant from Rio Grande do Sul State to study in Rio de Janeiro, and moves there with his wife. Meets and makes friends with artists like Cândido Portinari, Frank Schaeffer and Hans Steiner. Enters the Escola de Belas Artes, but leaves after disagreeing with its academic teaching. Attends a free course taught by Alberto da Veiga Guignard. Joins the Grupo Guignard, taking part in a joint studio and group exhibitions. First solo exhibition in Porto Alegre.

• Founds the Grupo Guignard group studio under Alberto da Veiga Guignard, in Rio de Janeiro, supported by Géza Heller, Elisa Byington and Maria Campello
• “Grupo Guignard”, Diretório Acadêmico da Escola Nacional de Belas-Artes, Rio de Janeiro. Exhibition is transferred to the Associação Brasileira de Imprensa, after being forcibly removed by a group of students at the Escola Nacional de Belas-Artes.
• 48º Salão Nacional de Belas Artes – Modern Section, Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Rio de Janeiro. Honourable mention for Drawing.

• Grupo Guignard closes. Works in other studios. Takes part in several group exhibitions in Brazil and abroad.
• Solo exhibition, Galeria Casa das Molduras, Porto Alegre.
• 49º Salão Nacional de Belas Artes, Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Rio de Janeiro. Bronze medal for Painting.

• Moves to studio in Rua Joaquim Silva, Lapa, where he remains until the mid-1960s.

• Travels to Europe with his wife, Maria Coussirat Camargo. Studies printmaking with Carlo Alberto Petrucci, painting with De Chirico, materials with Leoni Augusto Rosa and fresco with Achille in Rome. Studies painting with André Lhote in Paris.
